5 K Program
Our five year olds have daily Bible lessons, memory verses, and a Chapel program twice a month. They will review basic phonics, vowels, consonant-vowel blends, and one and two vowel rules, and special sounds. They will begin writing in cursive during the second semester. 5K will read short story books, learn to count by ones, twos, fives, and tens up to 100 and learn addition and subtraction. Basic fractions and geometric shapes will be taught as well as the value of coins and dollar bills, telling time, using the calendar, days of the week, and more. Traditional, fun, and Patriotic songs are learned in Music. With Arts & Crafts, our five year olds learn basic art concepts and techniques and further development of coordination and motor skills. In Science, our five year olds learn about plants and animals, health and human biology, and earth and space. Through Social Studies, the Abeka curriculum teaches about our country America, children of the world, map studies, and famous Americans and places. Five year olds continue to learn more about social and emotional problem solving with the Al’s Pal program. Our 5K classes also start to learn the basics of Spanish such as colors, numbers, days of the week and cultural holidays.
Children enrolling in our 5 Year Kindergarten must be five years of age by November 1, of the enrollment year. 5K is a full day program which meets Monday through Friday, 8 am – 2:30 pm. Before and Aftercare includes breakfast and afternoon snack. A morning snack as well as lunch is provided for each child during the kindergarten program time. Denbigh Christian Academy is a USDA provider ensuring our children receive proper nutrition. The Abeka Christ centered curriculum is used providing age appropriate learning activities for each age group.
Community helpers, like firemen, policemen, and dentists visit our classes throughout the year, sharing and demonstrating their skills and equipment used in their daily job duties. This experience can help the children understand they are there to help them if the situation or need arises.
