4yr old Curriculum
CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION:
Bible Students learn about God’s creation and the people in the Bible from both the Old and New Testaments. Students are introduced to Bible verses with the use of the A Beka preschool memory verse flashcards. Weekly chapels allow all preschool classes to come together and enjoy a time of praise and worship as well as age appropriate Bible stories in a group setting.
Phonics Using the A Beka and ACSI Curriculum, the students learn what letters are; the differences between upper and lowercase as well as letter recognition. Students learn the letter sounds for all consonants along with both long and short vowels, with the aid of A Beka Publications flashcards and learning games.
Numbers Students are taught what numbers are as they learn to recognize numbers from 1-20 and learn to count from 1-30. Through the use of games and flashcards provided from A Beka and ACSI Publications the children become familiar with the following concepts: before and after; more and less; sequential and random order.
Writing Students become familiar with how to hold a pencil. They learn how to print the letters from Aa-Zz along with the numbers 1-20. Students are also encouraged to begin writing their names.
Language Development/Enrichment Students learn lots of new and exciting words and their meanings. Students discover God’s wonderful world and all of His creations from sunshine and rain to whales and zebras. Classes talk about how special God made each and every one of us. Through the use of Language Development cards from A Beka Publications, children “meet” some very important people from history. The children “visit” some very interesting places, here in our country and far across the sea. Classrooms explore many different Health & Safety topics from “Good Hand-washing” to “Fire Drills”. Children “meet” all kinds of people, who have some very “cool” jobs, and discover some of the possibilities that await them when they grow up.
Art Throughout the school year, the children have many opportunities to develop their motor skills, while at the same time their creativity shines through. Children have lots of hands on fun as they learn to color, cut, glue, paint and draw.
Music Music is a very important part of the 4-year preschool day. The students enjoy singing and playing instruments. Through music, new skills and concepts can be taught and further developed, all while having fun.
Special Activities Preschool classes at Denbigh Christian Academy have various opportunities throughout the school year to experience educational fieldtrips. Classroom parties are held for celebrations such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, student birthdays, or other occasions the teacher may select. Special guests may also be invited to present programs to enhance the spiritual and educational content of our program.
